During the Summer 2025 National Sheriffs Association (NSA) Conference, JailGeek had the honor of hosting members of the NSA Subcommittee on State Sheriff Associations for an unforgettable evening aboard the Yacht Caprice, cruising the picturesque waterways of Fort Lauderdale. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the vital work of these law enforcement leaders while discussing how JailGeek’s solutions help sheriffs optimize federal detention reimbursements.

The event kicked off with remarks by Matt Saxton, Vice Chair of the NSA Subcommittee and Executive Director of the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association, and Steve Casey, former Executive Director of the Florida Sheriffs Association and current JailGeek advisor. Attendees included Hugh Hurwitz, former Acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and current JailGeek advisor, and John Scalia, former Chief Statistician for the U.S. Marshals Service and current JailGeek advisor, along with sheriffs and executives from across the county.

In his opening remarks, JailGeek CEO Joe Summerill stated:

“It’s our privilege to host this gathering for law enforcement leaders who dedicate their careers to keeping communities safe. At JailGeek, we’re equally dedicated to ensuring local jails receive fair reimbursement for housing federal detainees. Our technology exists to help serve those who serve us all.”

The discussion highlighted the significant revenue opportunities many counties are missing in their federal detention agreements. With JailGeek’s specialized approach to federal cost recovery, facilities typically see substantial improvements in their reimbursement rates while reducing administrative burden.
