JailGeek’s new Director of Business Development brings over a decade of public safety experience to help counties maximize federal detention reimbursements
When counties successfully renegotiate federal inmate housing agreements, the results can translate into hundreds of thousands and, in many cases, millions of additional dollars in revenue for detention operations. However, navigating the U.S. Marshals Service IGA process requires detailed cost data, federal compliance, and a clear strategy.
That’s where Jon Mattson comes in.
A Career Built on Public Safety Partnerships
Jon joined JailGeek in March 2026 as our Director of Business Development, bringing over a decade of experience working alongside public safety agencies. His career includes nearly 13 years with the California Highway Patrol, where he served in Communications, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and as a Cadet. That frontline experience gave him an intimate understanding of the challenges law enforcement agencies face, from staffing and resource constraints to navigating complex administrative processes.
That experience now translates into helping counties uncover overlooked revenue opportunities and secure fair federal reimbursement for housing inmates.
Before joining JailGeek, Jon led public safety technology initiatives and worked closely with law enforcement agencies nationwide. He also built and operated a direct-to-consumer e-commerce company, sharpening his entrepreneurial mindset and approach to building relationships and solving problems. Most recently, he served as U.S. Sales Director for PSP Corp., equipping correctional and mental health facilities with suicide prevention products and duty gear, further deepening his connections within the corrections community.
Across every role, the common thread has been working alongside public safety professionals and helping organizations operate more efficiently.
What Jon Does at JailGeek
Jon works directly with sheriffs, jail administrators, and county leaders to identify opportunities to increase federal per diem and transport rates.
By partnering with JailGeek’s analytics team, he helps facilities turn complex cost data into clear, defensible rate proposals, often resulting in significant increases in annual revenue.
Jon also represents JailGeek at industry conferences and events, building relationships within the law enforcement community and ensuring that sheriffs across the country have a trusted partner to help them navigate federal detention agreements.
Why This Matters for Your Facility
Securing fair federal reimbursement isn’t just about filling out forms. It requires a strategic approach to cost documentation, rate justification, and federal compliance. Facilities that understand their true operational costs and can defend those costs with audit-ready data are the ones that secure sustainable, fairly funded partnerships with the USMS.
Jon’s role at JailGeek is to ensure that sheriffs and county leaders have a dedicated partner to guide them through that process. From initial consultation to rate analysis to final negotiations, he helps facilities turn complex cost data into clear, defensible rate proposals.
